Application for DP
International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme (Grade 11) Admissions Procedures
Dear Applicant,
Thank you for your interest in applying to take the International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme in grade 11 at European School – International Section (ES-IS).
The Diploma Programme (DP) is an academically tough programme and is taught and assessed in English. However, the DP also allows you to develop into the sort of student universities around the world like – students who know how to learn and can manage their time, prioritise, think creatively, analytically, and maintain a balance in life.
At ES-IS we believe that every young person should have the chance for a good education however we do not believe in allowing students who are not adequately prepared for the DP to take it if it is obvious they will fail. Therefore applicants must go through some entrance procedures. These consist of:
A short personal statement to be submitted prior to interview (see below)
- Test in English proficiency
- Test in Maths proficiency
- Personal Interview.
In addition, you will need to have acceptable reports from your current school.

What do you have to do exactly?
Read and do the following carefully.
The Personal Statement
Deadline: Two days before the first examination by email to r.thorn@europeanschool.ge
This should be a short (around 600 words) statement in three sections:
Section 1 (approximately 400 words): describing yourself as a learner at school and outside school, your hopes for your future and your ideas for realising your hopes.
Section 2 (approximately 100 words): Identify a social issue (local/regional/global). Describe how you could take action, as a student, to improve the situation.
Section 3 (approximately 100 words): Given the general topic ‘eggs’ state and describe a question that you could investigate practically through one or more of the sciences (Biology, Chemistry, Physics).
Examination in Mathematics – this will identify the student’s abilities in mathematics and any areas not covered in their previous schooling. The examination takes 1hour. You can find an example of this test here and some materials to help here (will be activated by 1st April 2013).
Examination in English – this will test proficiency in English – reading comprehension and writing; vocabulary range and grammar skills. The examination takes 1hour 30 minutes.
Interviews: A twenty minute interview will take place sometime on the 30th April or 1st May (personal times will be arranged as applications are received). The interview will show us your ability to communicate (speak and listen) ideas about your personal statement, your attitudes to learning and matters arising from the maths examination.
Admissions procedures are for your benefit. We want to ensure that you will enjoy success at our school. In general we are looking for students who have the drive, creativity and self-discipline to succeed rather than perfect English and Mathematics. We also understand that students may be nervous during these procedures and may not have covered all the mathematics that the examination explores. Therefore we take these issues into consideration.
