Our Vision and Mission

Vision

To become an organisation that develops the best learners in each of us together.

Mission statement

The mission of European Academy is to ensure the members of our learning community become the best learners they can be within a context of local and global citizenship by providing an increasingly refined continuum of opportunities.

Defining Terms…

Best Learners? We define becoming the best learners we can be as doing all we can to identify and learn knowledge and skills that are relevant, interesting and useful to us now and in the future.  The third aspect of our developing into the best learners we can be concerns developing learner attributes.  At European Academy we do all we can to become learners who are:

  • robust
  • independent
  • proactive
  • collaborative
  • caring
  • risk-takers
  • knowledgeable
  • reflective
  • thinkers
  • balanced
  • inquirers
  • open-minded
  • communicators
  • principled

The last ten of these attributes comprise the IB Learner Profile.

Our learning community

Whilst our learning community starts with our students and teachers, it also includes our parents and the community we serve and that in which we exist.  We are also interested in making a difference globally and so our community is really a global one.  With more schools thinking like this we hope that more lives will be positively enhanced by better teaching, learning and collaboration.

Local and global citizenship? Our school seeks to help young people and staff to develop as good citizens willing to participate in society to make a positive difference.  We see the need for good citizens who can act locally as well as those who can act globally. The choice will depend on the student but each is similarly important for a better world.

Continuum – we are constantly developing and refining our programmes to become a continuum of education.  This educational continuum comprises of more specific continua such as a continuum of knowledge acquired, skills developed and learner attributes acquired.  Although we develop the continuum from PYP through MYP to DP, we also recognise the need for each student to develop the awareness of their own continuum of development, thus a student who joins the school at any point becomes aware of where they are, where they want to get to and how to get there.
